On the coming mining exploitation of oceanic mineral deposits
rare earth minerals gold lithium and other such deposits the negatives and positives to come from this. Tickers to benefit $RIG $OMEX
it has come to my attention three or so months ago or a bit longer in late 2024 or early 2025. I don’t particularly remember when this law was passed either late last year or early this one. so essentially a law was passed that provided nations legal right to claim oceanic continental shelf for mineral rights and industrial scale mining.
there are good things to this and bad things to it;
let’s examine the good first:
increased GDP and united states economic and mineral resource output for refining and manufacturing
possible reduction in freshwater pollution from mining runoff
high job increases if this is done without use of robotics for example similar to oceanic oil rigs
possible downsides:
if not managed properly it could cause severe oceanic pollution, but this is unlikely to affect land resources and waterways due to natural distillation that happens to rainwater when it is evaporated
however, the long-term consequences of this could be a highly acidified oceanic PH due to mineral extraction and chemical processes this involves
on countering the downsides
the negatives listed above likely would not occur until 2100 or so with the seas becoming acidic
one possible way people companies and governments can counter decreased fishery production is the creation of large freshwater reservoirs through desalination in coastal flatlands or channeling in hilly terrain and stocking these reservoirs with fish and creating artificial fishery’s similar to Alaska or the grand banks of newfoundland in the 1600-1800s
my reasoning for this is because sea mining is a pandoras box that has already been opened and when Companys catch wind of this, we will likely see a boom in supportive industries in the territorial claims mapped in the image above so solutions will be needed for the decreased food production from seas.
also worth noting this could be a reason behind the claims in canada and greenland more to come on this topic:
