why anyone without a side gig or self-employment will likely suffer from unemployment and possibly poverty due to ai and automation.
While it may be true that certain employment styles such as gig work through door dash and Instacart pay minimal amounts and many workers in these self-employed fields will complain of poverty in ways they can’t afford working for and delivering to the rich. These are technically services that provided mass employment to young people and people needing flexible schedules during covid in the early 2020s 2019 - 2023.
What I have heard is that this work is no longer profitable this is because these gig work companies do not provide reliable streams of income for young people. This is due to many people coming of age in 2019-2025 working gig work due to the covid economy. In addition, it is my opinion that the youth in Gen Z are highly adaptable and skilled in self-employment, side hustles and working very hard. If only to get what generations gone by could have through the career paths that were available in the office work of the 90s and 2000s and early 10s. but due to increased automation and AI being used in HR and other institutional employer’s Organizations and Departments. It is very unlikely for people to get employed strait out of college and especially so if you don’t have any work experience.
Part of the reason for this is a good reason and thing over all; (increased lifespans in the 21st century) and while good for humanity through increased wider human knowledge base. People living longer means people working longer and hence the fewer jobs there are due to automation and AI, automation giving rise to fewer warehouse and factory work or fast food the grunt work of society for example flippy the fast-food robot the amazon warehouse robotics equipment or just in time delivery drones they also have been purchasing to replace drivers. and while worth noting that robotics technology is replacing grunt work, AI is very soon to replace many monotonous offices work with increasingly complex jobs being replaced.
It is at this point in this article where I will write on the solution to the above paragraphs and the title of the essay in sum. Essentially 2025 and forward will be the Era of Self-employment and Prosperity of the Hardworking and dedicated. Those who don’t work for themselves when they lose employment from D.O.G.E. or Mega-Corp layoffs. Due to an increasing likelihood of global recession and possibly something similar to 1929 and this could be what we are approaching in sometime between 2025 and 2029.
While I am unsure what the path forward is for all of my readers I know and would like you to know, that we will all be better off starting our own businesses. I believe that is why I find Substack to be a growing platform among intellectuals for example.
The reasons this is the Golden Age of self-employment:
The lack of care corporations has for their employees
Inflexibility of bureaucracy private and public employers
These will be highly affected by tariff
Manufacturing
Office equipment
Consumer goods (i.e. aluminum for canned goods, cotton for textiles, silk or rayon precursor materials for carbon fiber.)
These tariffs and inflexibility of bureaucracy will likely cause the downfall of corporate industry.
This will incubate micro industry via the manufacturing by necessity from lack of basic goods supply from the Global Factory (China).
Micro industry I write meaning for example any business that can be started in which you can obtain the resources to make the product in your local region for example think buy local but instead produce local with local resources.
Principles and concepts of a successful business of the era of self-employment
Able to control your time and work hard with freedom and free time
If in agriculture and farming focus on what you like to grow and eat grow that and if growing for profit grow and sell what you can grow at scale and sell at profit and don’t be afraid to look into refining it into foodstuffs and sell at farmers markets
If in manufacturing be able to manufacture with resources produced in a commutable distance due to not being able to start with industry of scale that corporations have and not having the transit network in place
If in resource extraction know the natural resources and natural environment in which you are operating resource extraction utilizing public BLM land for mining claims can be beneficial to obtain resources without owning the land and mining in BLM land in the western United States is legal in most states if not industrial scale equipment, I will leave a link for this on this topic.
If in services You’re most likely to succeed in this modern era if you can come to your customer due to high cost of commercial real estate so mobile businesses are your best bet think mobile mechanic mobile dog groomer mobile bike repair mobile tech repair etc. etc. etc.
If in intellectual businesses aka former government employees and clerks your line of business is going away but writing and IP is not. but you MUST make sure on the platform you publish you will own the IP you create
Investment finance and banking if you are going into this field you MUST practice on a simulator at first or you will lose a lot of money, I made this mistake from age 18 to age 21 or 22 and now perform well at that and am now “decently well off” but use a trading simulator until you can regularly perform successfully 80% of the time. or more and to grow your money quicker don’t sleep on options trading
these are some of my best advice pieces of advice for starting your own business with minimal start-up costs minimal losses in the coming New Era of Self-Employment
